This is the latest series I am working on and consists of stylised views of Umbria and the Tuscan borders interesting towns. The images are trunkated and compressed, the idea being that they emphasise the buildings and landscape that sticks in the memory. When you return from holiday or a favourite destination, you don’t remember the whole scene but the elements that are of importance to you. In this way the pictures are personal edited highlights of the towns, showing the shapes and textures that I find interesting about each location.
The style is simplified, perspective is altered and size dismissed. All the towns, like the Umbrian hill towns, sit on representative hill mounds and despite the individuality of these locations they all have a shared history and landscape. This is reflected in the use of common elements throughout the paintings, which exposes their similarities in time and space.
